The Challenge
Australian national priorities in materials and manufacturing are articulated by initiatives such as AUKUS, the National Reconstruction Fund, and A Future Made in Australia. These initiatives call for a large (circa 20,000) and highly-skilled materials and manufacturing workforce, operating across organisational and disciplinary boundaries to solve problems associated with: extreme thermal and mechanical stresses, protection against diverse environmental effects, computational modelling and evaluation, and rapid fabrication of complex components. Now is the time to accelerate the development of Australia’s capability in these areas.
Our Mission
Establish a cross-institutional alliance and leverage it to:
(1) deliver a skilled and connected workforce,
(2) facilitate effective and efficient sharing of national research infrastructure, and
(3) deliver world-leading innovations in materials and manufacturing research, aligned to Australian areas of national priority.
Our Vision
The AM2 Alliance is a mission-driven partnership that aligns the expertise resident in Australian research institutions and industry to address Australia’s national priorities in materials and manufacturing research. The Alliance plays a leading role in workforce development, enabling access to research infrastructure, and delivering innovative solutions in collaboration with industry stakeholders both locally and internationally.
